Landing players like Marvin Wilson are what makes good recruiting classes great. Checking in at 6-4/320, Wilson is an absolute force in the Houston area. He is a consensus 5 star recruit and today he announced his top 5. Here is is:

So the big question is do the Sooners have a chance? Well maybe. There is no doubt that the Sooners lost momentum after Wilson’s visit to Norman where the Sooners were manhandled by Ohio State. Had the Sooners emerged victorious in that game, I believe that we might be looking at a player the Sooners would be in the driver’s seat for at this time. Sadly that isn’t the case.
Most everyone has Marvin pegged as a strong LSU lean, with a combination of FSU, tOSU, and the Sooners in the next tier of teams. I believe that is accurate.
So what needs to happen for the Sooners to turn things back in their favor?
- Beat Auburn. A loss in the Sugar Bowl would all but close this door
- Bob Stoops needs to have a homerun in home visit. Head coaches can only do ONE in home visit before National Signing Day. Bob Stoops has yet to use his visit (Ed Orgeron at LSU has already used his).
- Have the rest of SoonerSquad17 to continue to recruit him. Great players want to play with other great players. The Sooners recruiting class of 2017 is strong, and should they go on a run this next month leading up to National Signing Day with a group of recruits that look like: 4-Star OL Chuck Filiaga, 4-Star OL Adrian Ealy, 4-Star OL Stephan Zabie, 4-Star LB Levi Jones or Tyler Taylor, and 4-Star DE Taquon Graham, the Sooners just might build a bunch of momentum that would be hard to turn down.
In the end, I believe the Sooners will fall just short and Marvin Wilson will wind up at LSU.
