Sooners Squeeze One More Big Weekend In Before N.S.D. As Ryan Jones Pledges

What had already been a big Saturday for Oklahoma football recruiting became even more so when 4-star athlete Ryan Jones pledged his commitment to play for the Sooners. A prospect of Charlotte (N.C.) Mallard Creek, Jones joined 3-star defensive end prospect Troy James in making their announcements official.

The pair make a total of 27 verbal commitments in Oklahoma’s 2017 class that is expected to sign on Wednesday. Eighteen of the twenty-seven commitments are ranked as a 4-star or better prospect according to Rivals.

Jones is listed at 6-2/201 and had also received offers from 2016 national champs Clemson, Louisville, Nebraska, Tennessee, West Virginia and eight other universities. Rivals has him listed as the nation’s 49th ranked athlete in the 2017 class and the 10th best prospect from the state of North Carolina. However, 247Sports has him as the nation’s 15th athlete prospect and the 6th overall player from the Tar Heel State, according to their composite.
