Oklahoma notched a mark in the win column in their second try on Thursday’s opening day of the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge. After dropping a 3-2 decision to #2 Auburn earlier in the day, the top-ranked Sooners bounced back to smash BYU 7-1.
Absent in the first contest of the day, junior Paige Parker took to the circle and picked up exactly where she left off in 2016. Parker went the distance against the Cougars allowing just a single run, off six hits, while striking out eight batters.
Oklahoma’s ace got plenty of run support as Caleigh Clifton reached base on all four at bats, Fale Aviu knocked in two runs, and Nicole Pendley added two more RBI with a 2-run blast.
Five of the Sooners seven runs came in the bottom of the third when Pendley capped the big inning with her blast over the right field fence. It was Oklahoma’s first home run of the season and the 16th of Pendley’s career.
After BYU plated their only score of the game, in the fifth, OU’s final two scores came in the bottom of the sixth off the bats of Raegan Rogers and Alissa Dalton.
Up next for the Sooner is Nebraska with first pitched scheduled around 11:00 Friday morning.
