Finally pulling together and playing to their potential, the Oklahoma Sooners provided a challenge for the No. 9 Baylor Bears. After trailing at the half by 10 points, the deficit quickly dissipated. A 21-8 run sparked by Kameron McGusty’s three pointer pulled OU to within 49-47 with 9:21 remaining in regulation. The threat of a three game skid for BU seemed possible as the team failed to connect on a field goal attempt in the final three minutes. Yet, the Bears held on for a 60-54 win.

While both teams shot below 40% from the floor and 70% from the charity stripe, Johnathan Motley led all scorers with 21 points. Adding to his stat sheet, the future first round pick tallied 16 rebounds. Two other scorers joined Motley in double-digits staving off another loss in front of a home crowd. With the win, Baylor remains in second place in the conference with three games left on the slate.

For Oklahoma, Kameron McGusty continues to lead the way. Netting 13 points, the freshman continues to prove worth of his ESPN Top 40 Recruit dubbing. Firing up 14 shots, no other player on the roster provided the volume in terms of scoring or shooting. The young crop surrounding McGusty continues to improve with Kristian Doolittle adding 7 points and 8 rebounds.

Throw 5-star recruit Trae Young into the mix and this team could be very lethal from numerous positions on the floor. Until that point, we’ll cross our fingers and hope this program surprised a few teams in the conference tournament with an upset bid.
