Starting the season with various tournaments, the Oklahoma Sooners continue to see numerous teams. The most recent tournament happens to be the Courtyard Marriott Tournment. Playing two double headers on back-to-back days. On Friday, the Sooners faced Northwestern State in a 3-0 decision. Following the outing, OU downed Evansville in five innings 13-3.
Against Northwestern State, Paige Parker delivered pitch after pitch from the circle. Making quick work of the opposition, the lefty threw 3.1 innings of perfect softball before giving up a single. The fourth inning marked the only hit of the game for NSU.
In the second outing on Friday, it was the offense turning heads. With the bats firing consistently, the Sooners claimed a third run-rule of the year 13-3. Five different batters recorded two hits against Evansville. Scoring all of the runs in the fourth and fifth inning, Oklahoma remained one run shy of a season high.
Picking up where they left off, the Sooners once again made their way around the bases on Saturday. Holding Western Kentucky scoreless through five innings, Oklahoma picked up a second consecutive run-rule. This time, in the first meeting against WKU, OU plated nine runners to seal the win. In the cirle, freshman Mariah Lopez tossed four innings to earn her fourth win of the season. Over the course of the outing, Lopez struck out five batters allowing a single hit helping OU secure a fourth shutout on the year.
Meeting up for the second time this weekend, OU squared off against Evansville once again. Jumping out to an early 2-0, things appeared to be going according to plan. However, Evansville would started putting up runs in the fourth inning. Giving up a two run homer in the 7th, OU got a bit of a scare before closing out the inning. With the inning Oklahoma also closed out the game 5-4 to remain undefeated.
Theyll take the field on more time on Sunday before the tournament comes to an end.
