The Oklahoma Sooners are looking to add a few names to the grow list of 2018 recruits. With the potential to increase the number from six commits to eight by the end of the week, one recruit is set to announce his decision.
Many are familiar with the name Casey Thompson who is the younger brother of former Sooner quarterback, Kendal Thompson. A 4-star dual-threat signal caller, Casey holds offers from numerous schools. However, the experts are debating between Oklahoma and Texas at the moment.
Casey is ranked as the No. 3 prospect in the state of Oklahoma and has held an offer from the Sooners for over a year now. To boot, high school teammate and 5-star offensive lineman, Brey Walker has already committed to play in Norman in the coming years. Could it be another selling point? Familiar with the town and program, the coaching staff continues to hard sell Casey when given the opportunity.
On the flip side, 247Sports lists Texas as the 94% favorite in the crystal ball prediction. A look at the Longhorns roster reveals an opportunity to compete for playing time almost immediately. Last year’s starter, Shane Buechele, combined with early enrollee, Sam Enlinger, make up the only two scholarship quarterbacks on the list. Yet, Enlinger was apparently recruited as a quarterback/defensive tackle — this gives dual-threat quarterback an entirely new meaning!
Behind a newly inducted coaching staff at Texas, the possibilities are nearly limitless. Which program will be drawn from the pot of potential schools when Casey makes his announcement? We’ll know Thursday afternoon.
