Inclement weather limited Oklahoma State and Texas to just two games over the weekend, rather than the typically three, where the Longhorns returned to Austin with a two-game sweep in their pocket.
Trying to get ahead of the weather, the two teams played a Friday double-header where Texas rallied for a first game win and then powered their way to a shutout victory in the second game.
Freshman Cade Cabbiness went yard, in the bottom of the second inning, with a two-run blast in the opener to gave the Pokes their only lead of the weekend. Texas got on the board with a solo homer run from Zane Gurwitz in the top of the third. After tying the game in the fourth, the Longhorns took the lead with a three-run eighth inning that was capped by a 2-RBI single from catcher Michael McCann.
Morgan Cooper improved his season record to 6-2 in Friday’s second game by tossing seven scoreless innings, in which he held the Cowboys to just two hits. Cooper was supported by five RBI off the bat of junior Bret Boswell who went yard with a 2-run blast in the 2nd and a 3-run shot in the third. Patrick Mathis sent a solo home run, over the right field wall, in the seventh and then scored again in the ninth, on a balk, to get to the final score of 7-0.
Oklahoma State now stands at 6-11 in conference play and 23-18 on the season.
