Oklahoma State Drops Series To Lamar

For the second consecutive weekend the Oklahoma State Cowboys dropped a baseball series. After being swept by Texas in a weather-shortened two-game series last weekend, the Cowboys dropped a three-game series to, out of conference opponent, Lamar.

Oklahoma State out-slugged the Cardinals in a wild 6-5 win in game one and then were out-slugged themselves in a 7-6 game two loss. After seeing a combined 24 runs scored in the first two games of the series, the two teams met in somewhat of a lopsided affair in Sunday’s rubber match.

Garrett McCain went 4-of-6 from the plate, with 2 RBI and a run scored, and Cade Cabbiness was 3-of-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Friday’s OSU victory. However, it was Lamar’s Phil Ingram (3-of-5 with and RBI) and Bryndan Arredondo (3-of-5 with a run scored and an RBI) to lead the Cardinals in victory on Saturday.

Lamar’s Ryan Johnson improved his season record to 3-1 on Sunday by pitching five strong innings in which he gave up two runs but limiting the Cowboys to just four hits over that time frame. Jace Campbell and Ryan Cawthon kept OSU at bay for the remainder of the game by holding them to just three more hits for the game and keeping them off the board.

Meanwhile, Lamar turned a 1-0 deficit at the end of the first inning into a comfortable 4-2 lead by the end of the sixth off 2-RBI hits from Robin Adams (2nd inning) and Grant Devore (6th inning). Lamar added two more insurance runs in the top of the eighth to seal a 6-2 series-clinching victory.

The Cowboys are now 24-21 on the season but have lost five of their last six games. They return to conference play next weekend when they host Baylor.
