At the close of the regular season, the Oklahoma Sooners claimed the No. 1 seed in the Big 12 Tournament as well as a sixth consecutive regular season title. While a handful of programs are focusing on the post season, the Big 12 dished out individual conference awards. Of the five available, four went to the Sooners.

For the fourth time in conference history, a sophomore took home Big 12 Player of the Year honors. This go around, it was Shay Knighten who becomes the tenth Sooners to claim the award. Behind a .364 batting average, Knighten recorded 59 hits to go alongside 55 RBIs and nine home runs.

Joining the list, Paige Parker earned a third consecutive Pitcher of the Year title. Tossing three complete games, the lefty secured an 8-0 record throughout the duration of conference play. However, most impressive was the 0.86 ERA over 49 innings of work against Big 12 opponents.

Utility player, Nicole Mendes took home the title of Freshman of the Year. Ranking inside the top ten in conference in numerous offensive categories, the freshman scored 21 runs while securing 28 hits alongside a .444 batting average. Looking ahead, Mendes is one name fans need to be familiar with.

Last but not least, Head Coach Patty Gasso took home a tenth Coach of the Year award. Now, she’ll focus her ball club on the first Big 12 Tournament since 2010 — a tournament Oklahoma won. On Friday, the Sooners are set to square off against Texas followed by a meeting with Texas Tech.
