The best time of the year is getting closer and closer to being here! We are now only 68 days away from football time in Oklahoma! As the season approaches, let’s take a look at Baker Mayfield, who has had an amazing two seasons as the Sooners starting quarterback.
It has been nearly four years since Baker Mayfield transferred to Oklahoma as a walk on from Texas Tech. After sitting out a year, Baker has taken over the reigns as the big man on campus. In his first two years, he has completed an impressive 68% of his passes. The upcoming senior has also thrown for at least 3,700 yards and 36 touchdowns in each of his two seasons.
Mayfield was one of the top quarterbacks in the nation two years ago when he led the Sooners to the College Football Playoff. However, he was somehow even better last season as he threw for 40 touchdowns and only 8 interceptions. His quarterback rating last season was 196.39, which is the highest in college football history. The previous owner of the record was Russell Wilson, who had a rating of 191.78.
As a new season approaches, one can only assume that there will be more records broken by Mayfield, and plenty more mind blowing stats as well. Baker is the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy for the 2017-2018 season. But, if you ask him, there is only one thing on his mind, and that is winning the College Football Playoff.
