The Oklahoma Sooners made the trip to the largest island in the world, Australia, for a bit of basketball “Down Under.” Walking away with two wins, the gang defeated the Sutherland Sharks in Sydney early this morning. Cranking up the defense while retaining a run and gun offense, OU poured in 129 points earning a 78-point victory. The final, 129-51.
Able to reach deep into the bench, Lon Kruger witnessed all twelve of his players score at least four points. However, it’s Trae Young who continues to lead the charge. Behind a top tier skill set, the true freshman collected 23 points. Yet, there are a few others putting up gaudy numbers during these exhibition matches.
Brady Manek posted a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds. Kameron McGusty added 15points of his own. Rashard Odomes fell just shy of a triple-double on eight points, ten rebounds, and seven assists. Jordan Shepherd is currently averaging ten assists per game.
The effort produced 38 total assists during the game. Defensively, Oklahoma held their opponent to a mere 30.3% shooting performance from the floor. But, finding success by being active with hands in passing lanes, OU also secured 31 takeaways. They’ll look to continue to effort with a quick turnaround. Playing Thursday at 4:30 AM CST, the Sooners take on the the Sydney Kings.
