Only 24 more days until we get to see Russell Westbrook and his crew back in action. Just over three weeks to go and things are getting pretty exciting with recent additions to the roster.
Last year the Thunder really struggled to take care of the ball. They finished 24th in the league in turnovers. Oklahoma City definitely lacked ball handlers. Outside of Russell Westbrook there was really no one who could bring the ball up and down the court. When you look at the elite teams in the NBA, they all have at least three guys who can dribble the ball.
Oklahoma City averaged 15 turnovers per game last year. Only 5 of those came from Russell Westbrook. That means a majority of the teams turnovers came from other positions than the point guard. Your point guard is most likely gonna have the most turnovers on the team due to the amount of time he has the ball. It’s the job of the other positions to take care of the ball once they receive it.
Hopefully with the additions of Carmelo Anthony and Paul George, the Thunder will have more options when it comes to taking care of the ball. All three of these guys can dribble and all of them can score. If these guys want to be an elite team next year they’ve got to do a great job at taking care of the ball.
