The Oklahoma Sooners are coming off a bye week with the No. 3 ranking in the country. Set to face the Iowa State Cyclones in front of a home crowd, the crimson and cream will dawn a new uniform combination. For the first time, the Sooners will trot out in crimson-on-crimson.

Clearly labeled as “Royal Blood” twitter began to react mostly in gifs. It’s the second time Oklahoma’s wood grain jerseys and helmet — titled “Lay the Wood” or “Rough Riders” — will be worn this season. The first came on Sept 20th, as OU hit the road for the conference opener in Waco, Texas. Of course, that combination sported a cream-on-cream look with crimson shoulders.
Regardless, the crimson helmet picture above has not been seen since last year’s pairing against Kansas State. Carrying a 6-1 record in the alternate uniforms (the lone loss comes at the hands of Baylor in 2014), the Sooners hope to expand that number to 7-1.
Let us know what you think about the combination below.
