Trae Young, a five-star recruit, stepped on to campus with lofty expectations. A game changer type of player, the true freshman went to work learning Lon Kruger’s system. Clearly the hard work has paid off early on the hard wood for the young — no pun intended — Oklahoma Sooner star.
Making his college debut on Sunday against Omaha, Young produced 15 points to go alongside 10 rebounds securing a the first double-double of his career. However, the freshman wasn’t done on the stat sheet. Adding six rebounds, two steals, and two blocks, Young completed his night on just 26 minutes of play.
The effort marks the first time since 2007 that a freshman has won the Big 12 Player of the Week Honors in the opening week of play. Oklahoma returns to action on Wednesday against Ball State. Set to tip-off at 7:00 PM CST the action can be viewed on FOX Sports Oklahoma Plus (or you could always purchase a ticket to be there in person…the choice is yours.)
