Oklahoma Sooners Football | Baker Mayfield A Burlsworth Trophy Finalist

Over the past several years, Baker Mayfield has garnered attention for various reasons. Becoming a Heisman candidate over the past three seasons has bolstered the number of eyes on the quarterback at all times. However, the signal caller began his career as a walk-on at Texas Tech University. This simple fact grants Mayfield the opportunity to be considered for the Burlsworth Trophy.

Each year, the Burlsworth Trophy is given to the nation’s most outstanding player who began their collegiate career as a walk-on. On Tuesday morning, the committee announced their four finalist. The narrowing list includes Anthony Miller, Luke Falk, Troy Fumagalli, and of course Baker Mayfield. Already claiming the trophy in 2015 and 2016, Mayfield has the chance to win the trophy for a third consective time.

This season, Mayfield has thrown for 3,559 yards along side a touchdown to interception ratio of 31-to-5. The efforts on the field have vaulted the quarterback up NFL Draft Boards as well as watch lists for various awards. The winner will be announced on December 4th.
