Oklahoma State & Mike Gundy Renegotiate Contract Worth $5M

The most successful coach in Oklahoma State history played the game and wound up on the winning side of the arguement. In 13 years, Mike Gundy has produced eight seasons of 9+ wins in Stillwater. However, this past week, reports swirled of the head coach interviewing for the Tennessee Volunteers opening.

Meeting with representatives from the university, Gundy ultimately turned down the opportunity. Clearly, the talks concerned O-State officials who have decided to increase Gundy’s pay for the upcoming season. Effective immediately, the head coach will earn $5M — a bump from the $4.2M of the previous year according to Mark Cooper of the Tulsa World.

Roughly six months ago, Gundy signed a contract extension which included a $125,000 raise in each successive year for the duration of the contract. This meant that Gundy would have received $4.325 for the 2018 season. Now, with the renegotiating of the current contract, the $125,000 will not kick in until 2019.

All we can say is “well played sir, well played.”
