MBB | Two Sooners Earn Conference Weekly Honors

Playing a single game this past week, the Oklahoma Sooners met with the No. 3 Wichita State Shockers. While not many expected a win, a good portion expected OU to remain competitive on the road. However, a young program led by Lon Kruger pulled off the upset behind two monster performances by two true freshmen — both hailing from the state of Oklahoma.

Leading the way, Trae Young continues to impress with his ability to score as well as involve teammates in the game plan. Pouring in 29 points over the course of the forty minutes, the freshman proved capable of scoring any where on the floor against a top rated defense. Creating not only for himself but others, Young also dished out ten assists to secure another double-double. Maintaining his averages on the year, Young was tabbed the Big 12 Player of the Week.

Joining the list for the first time this season, Brady Manek earned Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. Consistently finding himself in a pick-and-pop situation, Manek knocked down three pointer after three pointer against WSU. Recording career high 21-point performance, Manek showcased a level of versatility for a 6-9 player. It may go unnoticed at this current point in time, but this freshman also effects the game on the defensive side of the court with intelligent play and length.

The two return home to continue to lead this team into action on Tuesday.
