OU Football | Report: Jerry Schmidt Accepts Position With Texas A&M

Since 1999, Jerry Schmidt has served as the Director of Sports Enhancement at the University of Oklahoma. However, that will no longer be the case as the Strength and Conditioning Coach has accepted a position at Texas A&M according to multiple reports.

Over the course of his career, Schmidt helped produce six Heisman Winners including Johnny Wuerffel, Barry Sanders, Tim Brown, Jason White, Sam Bradford, and Baker Mayfield. Just as impressive, the Strength and Conditioning Coach also produced 18 First-Round Draft Picks.

According to USA Today, Schmidt ranked 15th in strength coaches’ salaries. That put the Nebraska native in the ballpark of $315,000 per year. If the report is true that OU was unable to match the Aggies’ offer, it should rest well above that mark. Knowing the facts, Joe Castiglione and Lincoln Riley must let the long time coach go. With the hire, one thing is clear. Scott Woodward, the Athletic Director at Texas A&M, is committed to hiring the best money can buy.
