Mike Stoops and Calvin Thibodeaux saw their hard work pay off on Saturday morning when they received a commitment from the nation’s 16th ranked weakside defensive end.
Joseph Wete is the top overall prep prospect from the Washington D.C. (Gonzaga) area. With a 6-4/220 frame, 247Sports has him as a 4-star prospect. Holding offers from seventeen programs, including Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, and USC, he was thought to be a lean towards the Nittany Lions or USC Trojans.
That changed with one tweet on Saturday morning.

The Sooners currently have eleven defensive ends on their roster and Wete makes the second 2019 commitment at the position. Five defensive ends on the roster are juniors, including Kenneth Mann and Mark Jackson.
Wete joins Kori Roberson (Manvel, Texas) as Oklahoma’s defensive end commitments for 2019. With 12 commitments to the 2019 class, 247Sports has Oklahoma ranked #1 in the Big 12 and #2 Nationally. Nine of OU’s 12 commitments are ranked 4-stars or higher.
