The Maxwell Award tabbed 85 hopefuls during the preseason conversation on Monday morning. Distributed to ‘America’s College Football Player of the Year’ annually, the list is littered with top notch talent from various programs.
Although Kyler Murray has yet to be named the Oklahoma Sooners starting quarterback, the dual-threat signal caller earned a mention. The former 5-star recruit transferred to Norman and sat as the backup last season. Completing 18-of-21 passes, the sample size remains small in the current system. But, Murray impressed with his legs in the short span.
The potential for greatness remains intact. However, Murray isn’t the only Sooner included in the list of 85.
Rodney Anderson’s explosive end to the year landed the running back on the preseason watch list as well. On seven starts, Anderson rushed for 1,161 yards proving to be what many thought before injury claimed his first two seasons on campus. With 18 touchdowns to his name, Anderson appears to be the top NFL prospect on the roster. Clearly, that’s not the only organization taking notice of the talent.
Listed as 1-of-33 running backs on the Maxwell Award watchlist, Anderson hopes to be named a finalist on November 19.
