The Wuerffel Trophy is an award unlike any other in that it rewards a college football player for community service in combination with the effort on the field. However, the award also takes into account the academic standing of student-athletes. On Thursday, the committee officially released a list of names being considered for the Trophy.

Keeping a tradition alive Caleb Kelly entered the equation. Hoping to bring the trophy back to Norman, the linebacker embodies the example set by Danny Wuerffel. Assuming the trophy lands in Kelly’s lap, it will mark the third time an Oklahoma Sooner won the award since 2013. Previously, Gabe Ikard and Ty Darlington took home the bragging rights.
As a junior, Kelly remains primed for a breakout season. Switching positions will certainly elevate the status of the former 5-star recruit. As the season progresses, this is one young man to keep an eye on during the games but also off the field.
