Carmelo Anthony Holds Firm, Won’t Come Off The Bench With New Team

Oklahoma City and the Thunder fans may be done with Carmelo Anthony. However, the superstar continues to make headlines.

Earlier this month, the Thunder unloaded Carmelo Anthony after the All-Star waived the ‘no trade’ clause in his contract. Hoping to earn a return on the one-year investment, the Thunder moved Anthony to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Dennis Schroder as part of a three-way deal. In short, it meant a buyout remained on the horizon for Anthony once the trade became official.

Living up to expectations, the Hawks plan to release Anthony into the free agency pool as word swirled that the former No. 2 Overall Draft Pick would sign for the veteran minimum with a new franchise. Of course, the Houston Rockets topped the list as the destination of choice. This should come as no surprise considering Houston nearly obtained the shooter in 2017. Now, simply waiting 48 hours to allow waivers to clear, the elite scorer continues to take a stand on one specific issue.

A volume shooter that lacks notable defensive skills continue to make the declaration that he will not come off the bench. At the ripe old age of 34, many franchises expect Anthony to assume a reduced role as a member of the roster. There’s no telling how this shakes out at this point in time. Maybe, just maybe, the Rockets can be the team to finally convince the aging star that a championship ring still fits the finger of those on the bench…
