The Oklahoma Sooners released a depth chart at the beginning of the season featuring several names at nose guard. Senior Marquise Overton was clearly expected to be in the rotation. However, the defensive lineman remained noticeably absent in Saturdays 49-21 win over the UCLA Bruins.
Apparently, the talented lineman underwent emergency surgery on Friday night. Now, word continues to come out of Norman concerning the status of Overton for the foreseeable future. Following the appendectomy, the Sooners will likely be without the experience of the defensive lineman for the next few weeks.
Lincoln Riley: Robert Banres expected back shortly. Marquise Overton likely to miss a couple weeks after emergency appendectomy around 1 a.m. this morning #Sooners

Overton, who started nine games last season, was overtaken by Neville Gallimore on the depth chart this year. Without the large body backing up Gallimore in the center of the line, OU turns to Dillon Faamatau to single-handedly fill the role on the two deep. Well, at least until Overton has ample time to recover and is cleared by doctors to play once again.
