Wild 59-56 Win Puts Oklahoma Back In Big 12 Championship Game

In a game that featured 115 combined points and 1,372 combined offensive yards it was Oklahoma’s defense that helped seal the deal and put them in position to win their fourth consecutive Big 12 Championship.

Kyler Murray passed for 364 yards and ran for 114 more yards, with four total touchdowns, to lead Oklahoma’s offense. Redshirt freshman Kennedy Brooks ran for a game-high 182 yards, and a score, and Marquise Brown racked up 243 yards, and two scores, on 11 catches.

West Virginia quarterback Will Grier was exceptional as well, throwing for 539 yards and for touchdowns, in a losing effort.

As exciting as the offense was though, the game-changing moments came from Oklahoma’s defense. A Caleb Kelly sack, late in the second quarter, forced Grier into a fumble that Kelly ultimately scooped up for a score that gave Oklahoma their largest lead of the night at 28-14.

Then in the fourth quarter, with the Sooners nursing a 52-49 lead, Kenneth Mann hit Grier from behind to force West Virginia’s Heisman contender into his second fumble of the night. Curtis Bolton was able to scoop the ball and jet 48 yards to give OU the 10-point cushion they desperately needed.

The win was Oklahoma’s sixth in a row and completes a perfect “Championship November”. More importantly is sets up a grudge match against Texas at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on December 1st.
