Last year, the Oklahoma Sooners entered the season without a proven receiver on the roster. Regardless, Baker Mayfield consistently praised the group despite the lack of experience. Now, without the outgoing vocal leader on the roster, how would the group fare?
Proving himself over and over, Ceedee Lamb entered Championship Week holding a grand total of 882 receiving yards. Winning the title remained at the forefront of the conversation, yet the wideout was quickly closing in on the 1,000-yard barrier. Needing a big game, the sophomore delivered under the lights in the most difficult of situations. Racking up 167 yards of offense against the Texas Longhorns on Saturday, Lamb now as 1,049 total receiving yards this season.
Joining in on the fun, Marquise Brown was expected to anchor the group this season. Doing just that, the speedster raced into the record books for a second consecutive season. Struggling through an injury this season at times, Brown amassed 1,318 yards from the line of scrimmage. The effort marks the second consecutive year that ‘Hollywood’ has eclipsed the 1,000-yard barrier.
But, it’s what the duo did in tandem that has them in the record books this time around. Thinking back through the years, Oklahoma has fielding numerous top notch receivers. Regardless of the talent on the gridiron, the school has never witnessed two wideouts collecting 1,000 yards each…until now.
Clearly, Baker knew exactly what he was talking about when he touted this group as one of the best!
