Cowboys Lose 72-59 At Iowa State

Oklahoma State gave Iowa State everything they had. The problem was that it just wasn’t enough. Cameron McGriff was a rebound shy of another double-double. He poured in a team-high 17 points and was complimented by 14 points from Lindy Waters.

Mike Boynton only went three deep into his suddenly reduced bench and the effort only yielded 10 points. Meanwhile, led by Lindell Wigginton, Iowa State’s reserves produced 24 points which was more than enough to preserve the lead established by the starters.

The Cyclones took the lead on a Michael Jacobson layup at the 18:35 mark of the first half and never found themselves on the minus side of the scoreboard again.

The Cowboys were able to make runs at Iowa State but never totally climbed out of their deficit. They closest they came was near the midpoint of the second half when a 3-ball from Thomas Dziagwa pulled them to within 42-40. The Cyclones responded with a 7-0 run to once again put distance between themselves and O-State.

Marial Shayok, the Big 12’s leading scorer, scored a game-high 20 points and Wigginton produced 14 to lead the Cyclones who have now swept the season series with Oklahoma State.

With the loss, Oklahoma State drops to 8-10 on the season and 2-4 in conference play.
