Something Has Got To Give
Oklahoma travels to Austin looking for their first road win in Big 12 play. Meanwhile the Longhorns have dropped their last three games. Both teams are looking to even their conference record at 3-3 by snapping their current streak.
Oklahoma’s road losses in the Big 12 have come at Kansas and at Texas Tech, while two of Texas’ three losses have been to those same opponents. They lost to the Red Raiders at home (68-62) before traveling to Lawrence, Kansas for their most recent loss (80-78).
Coming Out Party
Kristian Doolittle is averaging 9.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game for Oklahoma this season. Entering tonight’s game against the Longhorns, Doolittle has scored in double digits in five of his last seven games, including a 24-point performance that featured the game-winning shot over TCU last Saturday.
However, it was two years ago at Texas that Doolittle made his presence known. Then the Edmond, Oklahoma native was only a freshman but he produced a career-high 29 points and 10 rebounds that night.
The Bounce-Back Game
The Sooners are 3-0 in games after losses this season. In those three games (Dayton, Oklahoma State, TCU), the Sooners limited opponents to 33.7 percent shooting and winning by an average of 7.7 points.
Oklahoma leads the all-time series with Texas 54-39. The Longhorns hold a 22-18 series edge in Austin. Texas has also won four of the last five meetings between the two schools.
Lon Kruger is 7-7 against Texas.
Defense And Rebounding Get It Done
Oklahoma’s opponents are shooting 38.3 percent from the field – the second lowest opponent field goal percentage in the conference and 12th nationally.
The Sooners are third in the nation in defensive rebounding with 31.2 defensive boards per game. OU’s 41.8 total rebounds per game rank ninth in the country.
Scouting The Longhorns
Texas (10-7, 2-3) is led in scoring by senior guard Kerwin Roach’s 13.5 points per game. He’s one of three Longhorn players averaging in double figures with Matt Coleman (10.4) and Jaxson Hayes (10) just behind him.
Senior forward Dylan Osetkowski is averaging 9.6 points per game but is also pacing the Longhorns in rebounding by pulling down 8.1 boards per game.
Texas scores an average of 71.5 points per game while giving up 64.8 points to their opponents.
Oklahoma (13-4, 2-3) is led by senior guard Christian James who ranks fourth in the Big 12 in scoring with 17 points per game. He’s also the top rebounder for the Sooners with an average of 7.6 boards per game.
Sophomore forward Brady Manek is Oklahoma’s only other player averaging in double figures. He’s posting 11.2 points per game and is right behind James in rebounding with an average of 7.2 boards per contest.
On the season OU is scoring an average of 73.6 points per game while opponents score 67.1 points per game on average.
