In the finale of the Clearwater Elite Invitational, the Sooner offense provided a few fireworks as a few familiar names led Oklahoma to a victory over Hofstra. On a 3-of-4 type day, Jocelyn Alo drove the ball over the fence twice. The effort produced five RBIs for the sophomore and three runs as the outfielder helped secure a 17-3 win.
Joining in on the fun, Grace Lyons stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded. Waiting for the pitch the freshman delivered a hit. Soaring over the wall, four runners crossed home plate as Lyons recorded the first grand slam of her young career. Two others — senior Sydney Romero and freshman Grace Green — also recorded homerun on the day. It was all part of an offensive explosion that put 15 runs on the board in the first to innings.
Needing just five innings to close out the invitational, Giselle Juarez continues to search for identity within this program. The former All-American started the game for Oklahoma but surrendered three runs on two hits. Being replaced, the coaching staff decided to give three others an opportunity including Mariah Lopez. In two innings of work, the righty earned the win moving to 5-0 on the year.
Heading back across the country, the level of competition remains high for Patty Gasso and her ballclub. Paired with the likes of No. 2 UCLA and No. 9 Arizona in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, this team is being tested early and often. Until then, Boomer Sooner!
