After a strong start to the season Oklahoma baseball has officially hit a rough patch. After dropping a 6-4 rubber match decision to TCU on Sunday the Sooners have now lost six of their last eight games since sweeping Kansas to open conference play.
A three-run home run by TCU’s Johnny Rizer, in the top of the first, put the Sooners in a hole right at the start. Oklahoma got one back in the bottom half of the frame when Tyler Hardman scored Diego Muniz with a single to left field.
The Frogs quickly responded with another run in the top of the second and then held the 4-1 lead until Diego Munez crossed home plate again in the bottom of the third.
Munez finished the day 2-for-4 from the plate with two RBI and the two runs scored. His two-out 2-RBI double, down the left field line, help spark hope for the Sooners in the bottom of the ninth.
Had it not been for the two runs TCU scored in the seventh, with the help of a wild pitch, Munez would have tied the game with his ninth inning heroics. As it was though, his double left OU two runs shy on the scoreboard and a ground out to third, at the next at bat, ended the game.
The Sooners are 23-10 on the season and 5-4 in Big 12 play. They’ll host Texas Southern this week for a two-game series on Tuesday and Wednesday.
