Three shutouts, two run-rules, and a slew of home runs is the best way to describe Oklahoma’s weekend on the softball field. The Sooners blitzed the Jayhawks by a combined score of 23-0 in their three-game sweep, improving their conference record to 9-0.
On Friday night Giselle Juarez allowed just a single hit, while striking out 11 batters, to lead Oklahoma to a 10-0 run-rule win in the opener. It was the fifth time this season she’s recorded ten or more strikeouts in a game.
From the plate the Sooners showed patience, eventually drawing eleven walks. Grace Green went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, three RBIs and a home run. Caleigh Clifton also hit a homer on Friday night as well.
Saturday brought the closest game of the series with OU claiming a 5-0 victory. A day after Juarez held the Jayhawks to just one hit, Mariah Lopez duplicated the feat while striking out eight batters to record her sixth shutout win of the season.
Sydney Romero finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk and Shay Knighten recorded a pair of RBIs to lead OU from the plate.
Oklahoma’s offense returned on Sunday as the Sooners sent the ball out of the park four times on their way to their second run-rule victory of the weekend.
Green went 2-for-2 from the plate, she also drew two walks, with both of her hits being home runs. Clifton and Sydney Romero also went yard, helping the Sooners wrap up the finale in six innings.
It was Shannon Saile’s turn to start in the circle on Sunday. She pitched four innings of shutout ball before giving way to Lopez in the fifth. Juarez came in to pitch the sixth, registering two strikeouts.
Oklahoma will play the Texas Longhorns, in Austin, next weekend.
