Flashing signs of dominance over the course of the week, two Oklahoma Sooners earned Big 12 Weekly Awards.
Stepping into the circle, Giselle Juarez registered a complete game shutout against on Friday evening during the series opener. It marked the first time in her career as a Sooner that Juarez secured a complete game shutout in conference play. Yet, it’s the second such instance of the year. The clear cut ace of the bullpen, Juarez fanned 11 total batters which matched the single game high by any league hurler this season. The performance turned heads as the lefty wrapped up a third Pitcher of the Week award.
Joining the effort on the offensive side of the equation, Grace Green burst on to the scene as a freshman this year. Recording and impressive 2.143 slug percentage, the youngster slammed three homeruns over the weekend. Producing at a high level, Green remains a large reason as to why there are no weak points in the Sooner lineup. Behind the numbers, the freshman garnered recognition of the Big 12 Player of the Week. The effort marks the second weekly honor for her this year. It’s just the beginning of something good for Green in Norman.
Moving forward, the Oklahoma Sooners will rely on these two as a pairing with the No. 11 Texas Longhorns sits on the horizon.
