On Wednesday, Grace Green earned the title of Big 12 Freshman of the Year. The occasion marks the second consecutive season an Oklahoma Sooners has claimed the honor. Now, the freshman has her eyes set on claiming the NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year award as one-of-ten finalists.
Over the course of the season, Green stepped into the batters box and provided a spark for this offense. Looking like anything but a true freshman, the utility player accounted for 14 homeruns alongside a .402 batting average. Sporting a 1.000 slugging percent in conference (.761 in all games), no one questions the power Green possesses at the plate.
As a vital piece of the puzzle, Green’s presence removed any weaknesses within the order. Moving forward, the successes are sure to come. However, the NFCA will narrow the list of Freshman Player of the Year candidates to three on May 21st. A winner will be announced on May 28.
Will Grace Green become the second consecutive recipient of the award for the Oklahoma Sooners?
