Oklahoma Sooners Awarded Automatic Bid After Big 12 Tournament Cancelled

During the Big 12 Tournament, the Oklahoma Sooners loaded the bases in the top of the fifth inning. With five runs already on the board, the regular season champions hoped to end the night cap early while facing the struggling Kansas Jayhawks. However, weather pushed the game into a rain delay as the two planned to meet the following morning.

After assessing the situation, the conference decided the cancel the remainder of the tournament. Citing poor field conditions as the main culprit, the focus quickly turned to the automatic NCAA Tournament Bid.

Despite the Oklahoma State Cowboys securing a spot in the championship game, the Big 12 awarded the automatic bid to the Oklahoma Sooners. Why? Patty Gasso’s ballclub claimed the regular season title after an undefeated run through conference play.

The Sooners now await Selection Sunday to learn their fate. As the No. 1 team in the country, things are not likely to change as OU is expected to host a regional. Until then, Boomer Sooner!
