NCAA Softball Tournament | Oklahoma Sooners Earn No. 1 Overall Seed

For the second time in school history, the Oklahoma Sooners have claimed the No. 1 Overall Seed in the NCAA Softball Tournament. Behind a record setting 39-game win streak, the program will once again host a regional. This year, the Norman plays host to the likes of the Wisconsin, Notre Dame, and UMBC.

Through 51 games this season, the Sooners lead the nation in several statistical categories. Starring with the defense, the pitching staff of Giselle Juarez, Mariah Lopez, and Shannon Saile allowed a grand total of 59 runs. However, only 52 of those are earned securing a 1.15 ERA. Behind the bullpen, the fielders have been phenomenal. Recorded a .986 field percentage, OU has committed a mere 16 errors.

“I’m proud of this group. Earning the No. 1 seed is a big accomplishment, and it’s very difficult to do. A lot of hard work was put into this season so far. This team is highly motivated, and I’m excited for what comes next for them.”

Oklahoma Head Coach Patty Gasso

On the other side of the equation, Oklahoma paces the rest of the nation in batting percentage as well. Relying on a nucleus of experienced seniors, the young players have filled in the gaps at the plate. Posting a .365 average from the top to the bottom of the order, the Sooners are clearly a triple threat and well deserving of the top seed.

Dropping just two games all season long, can anyone break the current streak? Or will Patty Gasso claim her 3rd national title in four years? The first pitch is scheduled for Friday!
