The Sporting News released their 2019 Preseason All-American Team this week and CeeDee Lamb was the only Oklahoma Sooner to make the list, checking in on the second team.
Lamb, who was also named a First Team All-Conference selection, recorded 1,158 receiving yards on 65 total receptions in 2018, averaging 82.7 yards per game, 17.8 yards per catch. He also hauled in 11 touchdown passes.
Lamb put up numbers close to Marquise Brown last season and the former teammate heard his name called in this year’s draft. In April Sports Illustrated had Lamb as the only player from Oklahoma to be taken in the first round, in the Indianapolis Colts, of their 2020 NFL mock draft.
Lamb has a more subdued personality than this year’s first-round Sooners wideout Marquise Brown, but his knack for making impossible catches brings more than enough flash. If late second-rounder Parris Campbell struggles with drops again as he adjusts to a new level, Lamb could emerge as Andrew Luck’s new favorite toy.Sports Illustrated
With Brown off to the Baltimore Ravens Lamb will become the top receiving target for Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts. That potentially sets him up to have a career season which would undoubtedly lock him in as a first round draft selection.
