The Oklahoma Sooners claimed a win during the season debut as fans caught a glimpse of not only Jalen Hurts at quarterback, but also the revamped defense. Despite the win, several within the program expressed discontentment with the performance. Voicing the desire to improve each and every week, Lincoln Riley stepped up to the podium on Tuesday to address the media.
Erik Swenson | Offenive Line
After releasing an official depth chart, Erik Swenson’s name appeared at the top of the list at left tackle along the offensive line. However, on Sunday the redshirt junior failed to start. Instead, those paying attention noticed R.J. Proctor filling the role. Quickly assessing the situation during Tuesday’s presser, Swenson remained ‘banged up’ from fall camp. Expect Swenson to return to action sooner rather than later though.
T.J. Pledger | Running Back
Oklahoma utilized a stable of running backs throughout the contest on Sunday. Dipping down into the depth chart, T.J. Pledger remained noticeably absent from play. Undergoing hand surgery explains the reason behind the absence. While no time table has been officially established, the coaching staff expects Pledger to return this season.
Dillon Faamatau | Defensive Lineman
Continuing to recover from a previous injury, Riley mentioned that Dillon Faamatau could have played on Sunday. Electing not to play the redshirt senior, expect the defensive lineman to make a return this upcoming weekend.
Kenneth Mann | Defensive Lineman
Due to an undisclosed injury, Kenneth Mann failed to appear in the contest against the Houston Cougars. A former captain and All-Big 12 honorable mention, the redshirt senior possesses leadership skills and is well liked by the rest of the locker room. While word coming out of Norman is that Mann’s return is nearing, no official timeline has been established.
