Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts took the Big 12 by storm on Sunday night when he posted career and school record numbers debuting in Lincoln Riley’s offense. On Tuesday he was acknowledged by the conference as the Newcomer and Offensive Player of the Week.
Hurts accounted for six touchdowns and set the school record for total offensive yards by a player making his Oklahoma debut. In a 49-31 win over the Houston Cougars he was responsible for 508 total yards of offense.
Hurts showed both accuracy and athleticism in the performance, completing 20-of-23 passes for 332 yards and three touchdowns (no interceptions), while also running 16 times for a career-high 176 yards (11.0 average) and three more scores.
