Oklahoma Football Against The Stats | How The Sooners Are Stacking Up

As expected from an Oklahoma football team the Sooners one of the top teams in the nation in offensive stats but not so much on the other side of the ball. That’s not to say that Oklahoma is at the bottom of the defensive stats, as in year’s past, it’s just to say that they’re well ahead of the curve with Jalen Hurts and company.

Offense

Oklahoma leads all FBS schools with an average of 676.7 yards per game, 22 offensive touchdowns, 22 offensive touchdowns, and 2,030 total yards.

The Sooners are 4th nationally on third down with a .593 conversion rate and they are 3rd nationally in pass completion percentage at .779.

Through the air, Oklahoma leads FBS programs with an average of 13.73 yards per attempt and are 3rd with a 17.62 yards per completion average. Oklahoma is 9th nationally at 352.3 passing yards per game.

Jalen Hurts ranks 14th nationally in passing yards per game (293) and 14th in passing touchdowns (9). He’s 2nd nationally in completion percentage with an average of .803.

Charleston Rambo’s 251 total receiving yards rank him 26th nationally and his average of 83.7 yards per game ranks 32nd, as does his 4 total touchdowns.

With an average of 324.3 yards per game on the ground, Oklahoma is 4th among FBS schools in rushing. Their team average of 8.32 yards per rush ranks second, as does Oklahoma’s 973 total rushing yards. OU’s 10 rushing touchdowns has them ranked 7th in the FBS.

Hurts is 3rd among all FBS rushers with an average of 9.82 yards per carry and is 6th in total rushing yards at 373.

Defense

The Sooners rank 58th in the FBS is total defense, surrendering an average of 352.7 yards per game. They have given up 8 touchdowns on defense this season which ranks them 63rd.

With five forced turnovers on the season Oklahoma is tied for 39th among FBS schools in turnovers gained.

Against the pass Oklahoma ranks 64th with an average of 212.3 yards given up per game.

With an average of 140.3 yards allowed per game, the Sooners are 66th nationall against the run. Opponents are averaging 4.05 yards per carry against Oklahoma’s defense which is 74th among FBS schools.

Opponents have scored two rushing touchdowns on the Sooners this season which puts them at a 53rd rank in rushing touchdowns allowed.

With an average of 1.5 tackles for loss per game, Oklahoma freshman Jalen Redmond is tied for 42nd among FBS defenders. His 32 total yards of loss have him tied for 30th.
