Starting the first six games of the season, the Oklahoma Sooners relied on Jon-Michael Terry at the linebacker position in the recently implemented ‘speed defense.’ However, the junior was absent against the West Virginia Mountaineers during Saturday’s clash in Norman. Stepping into the void, the program utilized a younger player on the roster.
Tallying 16 tackles alongside 2.5 for loss, Terry apparently suffered a non-contact injury leading up to the game. However, it is now breaking that the linebacker from Tulsa will miss the remainder of the year. Citing a lower-leg injury as the cause, Riley mentioned Mark Jackson as a candidate to receive more snaps in the immediate future during the weekly press conference.
Overall, this defense continues to make strides week in and week out. Form tackling and bringing down the ball carrier in space are two of the most notable improvements. It’s something that is filtering down the depth chart and Oklahoma should be in good hands with Jackson or Nik Bonitto.
