The Oklahoma State University basketball program received perhaps the biggest news in years when 5-star recruit Cade Cunningham verbally committed via Instagram on Tuesday evening.
Cunningham is a 6’5″ 215-pound combo guard out of Arlington, Texas. He is the projected #1 pick of the 2021 NBA Draft, and he if ends up in Stillwater next season, Cowboy head coach Mike Boynton will have achieved something incredible in his short time at Oklahoma State so far. To say Boynton is excited would be an understatement.
According to 247Sports, Cunningham is an all-around skilled basketball player with an ability to attack the rim and defend at a high level. He is not a great shooter, but that aside, he could end up being the best basketball player in Oklahoma State history.
The Cowboy basketball program has had its ups and downs over the last decade, but Boynton is a coach who is all in on implementing improvements, and while the success hasn’t necessarily stood out in the wins column, it is definitely visible in the type of basketball that is being played in Stillwater. Adding Cade Cunningham to that mix will make Oklahoma State an instant contender in the Big 12, and it will once again return the national spotlight to Gallagher-Iba Arena.
