Oklahoma State Football | Bedlam Rewind #3: Brodrick Brown and Shaun Lewis Tag-Team Interception

Note: Narrowing down top Bedlam moments is a bit of a challenge. What we’ve decided to do is pick five special moments from games dating back to the 2001 season.

Setting Up the Play

Both Oklahoma State (10-1 at the time) and Oklahoma (9-2 at the time) entered the 2010 Bedlam game ranked in the top 15, and the Cowboys were favored, a rarity in the series.

Oklahoma led 21-10 midway through the second quarter, and the Sooners were already at midfield again pressing for another score.

The Play

On 3rd & 3 at the Oklahoma 45-yard line, Sooner quarterback Landry Jones let a pass go, attempting to throw it away out of bounds. Cowboy cornerback Brodrick Brown—who is only 5’8″ by the way—leapt out of bounds, snagged the pass, and tossed it inbounds to teammate Shaun Lewis.

Lewis returned the interception to the Sooner 48-yard line, and Boone Pickens Stadium lost its collective mind.

The Result

The Cowboys picked up a false start penalty on the first play of the ensuing drive, and they ended up having to punt the ball away, but the momentum remained, and Oklahoma State scored once they got the ball back.

The Cowboys ended up losing to the Sooners 47-41, but this play has finished as a finalist in ESPN’s “Play of the Year” at the 2011 ESPY Awards, Deadspin.com named it as “the best interception we’ve ever seen,” and it stands as one of the most famous plays in all of Bedlam lore.
