As Oklahoma is closing up one of the top recruiting classes in the nation a confirmation of suspension rumors also came on Wednesday. That confirmation came, more or less, in the way of a denial to speak to it.
“I’m aware of the report that’s out there. Unfortunately, at this time I cannot comment on it,” Lincoln Riley said at his Signing Day press conference. To read between the lines of that statement would indicate that the Sooners are in the process of appealing the suspensions.
Shortly after Riley’s statement the folks at SoonerScoop broke the names of the three players facing suspension.
The most damning evidence actually came from Riley when asked a follow-up question in regards to Kennedy Brooks playing in the Peach Bowl.
While all three players are extremely talented, the losses of Stevenson and Perkins will sting the worst. Among running backs, Steven is second in rushing yards (515) and an 8.0 yards per carry average.
With six quarterback take downs this season, Ronnie Perkins is Oklahoma’s leader in sacks. That’s going to be a big loss in terms of defending, and bringing pressure, against the 2019 Heisman Trophy winner.
