Update: According to Carey Murdock, of SoonerScoop.com), DeArman was sent home from the Peach Bowl for disciplinary purposes. While this certainly doesn’t provide all of the answers to the situation, it does add clarity as to why he would enter the portal.
The transfer portal season is upon us and Ty DeArman wasted no time jumping in. A freshman safety from Arlington, Texas, DeArman was rated as a three-star recruit by both 247Sports and Rivals.
At 6-0/190, he received a total of 28 scholarship offers and was thought to be a lean towards Arizona State before committing to Oklahoma. Utah and Wisconsin were also among the schools to offer.
There’s really no way to tell the exact reason why a kid chooses to go into the portal. Oklahoma had to go deep into the depth chart against LSU due to Delarrin Turner-Yell’s injury and Brendan Radley-Hiles ejection. However, coaches seemed to lean on freshman Woodi Washington more. The Peach Bowl was Washington’s fourth game appearance this season while it was just the first for DeArman.
