During Billy Donovan’s media session prior to the New Year’s Eve matchup with the Dallas Maverick, the head coach for the Oklahoma City Thunder announced that Danilo Gallinari, Dennis Schröder, and Hamidou Diallo would all be returning from injury this evening.
Schröder has missed the least time with a sprained ankle, sitting out of Sunday’s contest in Toronto with the Rapors, and Gallinari has not missed too much, resting the a sprained ankle the last 4 games. Diallo returning, however, is huge news for the franchise.
Hamidou Diallo was playing some of his best basketball before hyperextending his elbow against the Lakers on November 22nd, and as a result, the second-year player has missed 17 consecutive games. His return to the lineup will be a welcome one tonight in front of the home crowd, and hopefully he can get back to playing solid basketball.
Staying healthy is a key for this young Thunder squad as there is not a lot of veteran leadership to go around. Coming into the season, everyone knew that certain players, primarily Gallinari and Chris Paul, have been injury prone in the past, but if those guys in particular can stay healthy, then OKC should be able to stay the course and perhaps even make a playoff run.
Tip-off for the game against the Mavs tonight is at 7 PM, and it will be televised on Fox Sports Oklahoma. It will also be broadcast on the radio at WWLS 98.1 FM.
