Oklahoma Sooner LB, Ryan Jones, Enters Transfer Portal

A trend is becoming alarmingly evident as the number of defenders at the University of Oklahoma continues to rise. Reports have tagged Redshirt Sophomore Ryan Jones as the latest addition to the list of players exploring their options.

As a former 4-star recruit out of North Carolina, Jones appeared in 11 games with the Oklahoma Sooners during the 2018 campaign. Earning three starts under the direction of Mike Stoops, the situation drastically changed with the hiring of a new defensive coordinator. During the 2019 season, the linebacker appeared in seven games. However, Jones failed to enter the equation throughout the months of November and December.

With playing time dwindling for Jones, others showcased promised in Alex Grinch’s system. However, the potential transfer leaves the DC thin in terms of experience at the position moving forward. Leaning on young talent once again, the defense looks to improve and more importantly, mature in the upcoming spring semester.
