Oklahoma Sooners Football | Does Addition of Obi Obialo Speak to Severity of Theo Howard Injury?

After transferring to the University of Oklahoma as a graduate, Theo Howard suffered a small setback. Reportedly sustaining an achilles injury, experience and depth remain at the forefront of the conversation. On Sunday, the program attempted to address the situation with the addition of yet another graduate transfer. Announcing the intentions via social media, Obi Obialo appears to be headed to Norman.

A former walk-on with the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Obialo eventually ended up at Marshall before earning a scholarship. Appearing in four games for the Thundering Herd last season, the receiver is able to utilize a redshirt granting Obialo one final season elsewhere. A veteran with experience in the Big 12, the addition of the receiver is a welcomed sight.

However, it potentially points to a larger issue with Theo Howard. Previously suffering an injury that will likely sideline the graduate transfer for the most, of not all, of the offseason, Howard tweeted out a bit of encouragement mot fans. Stating “I’ll be fine and solid before the season,” the receiver put the fan base at ease. With the addition of another late transfer at the position, could it be cause of concern knowing Howard only possesses one season of eligibility?

Regardless, the Sooners have a few scholarships to spend on the graduate transfer market with numerous players vacating roster spots this offseason. We’ll continue to monitor the situation.
