The Oklahoma Sooners made a late addition to the 2020 Recruiting Class with a local product announcing a commitment on Thursday afternoon. Rated as a top five kicker by Kohl’s Professional Camp, Zach Schmit possesses the skills necessary to be effective at the collegiate level.
Despite weighing in at 162 lbs, Schmit showcased above average leg strength. While distance is only part of the equation for a kicker, most fans are interested in accuracy at the position. During Kohl’s National Scholarship event in 2019, Schmit recorded a 65-yard attempt which split the uprights! With a high floor already in place, the sky remains the limit for this prospect. That simple fact earned Schmit five scholarship offers including interest from both state schools.
Schmit joins three other players on the roster labeled as a kicker. However, two of those continue to vie for the role of punter in the same breath. Knowing the group consists of all underclassmen, the competition should ratchet up a few notches in the Fall.
