Oklahoma Basketball At Kansas | Here’s What You’ll Want To Know

Having won three of the last four games, Oklahoma is about to run the gauntlet of playing at #3 Kansas and the hosting #1 Baylor. Today’s game will feature two of the top three scorers in the Big 12 with KU’s Devon Dotson (17.9 points) and OU’s Brady Manek (15.9).

Here’s what you’ll want to know about the Sooners and Jayhawks.

Series History

Kansas is the only Big 12 team with a winning all-time record against the Sooners, leading the series 148-68. Oklahoma has only won two of the last five meetings.

The Jayhawks are 77-16 against the Sooners in Lawrence. Oklahoma is looking for its first win in Allen Fieldhouse since 1993. 

The Three Amigos

Oklahoma boasts the top scoring trio in the Big 12 and one of the best in the country in junior forward Brady Manek (15.9 points per game), senior forward Kristian Doolittle (15.0) and junior guard Austin Reaves (14.2). All three Sooners rank in the top 11 of the Big 12’s scoring race. Oklahoma and Arkansas are the only major-conference schools with three players averaging over 14 points.

Brady Manek is the league’s top 3-point shooter during Big 12 play, making a conference-best 34 treys (3.1 per game) at a Big 12-leading 47.2% clip. His shooting success ranks him second in the league in scoring during Big 12 play with 16.3 points per game. Overall on the season, Manek is tied with TCU’s Desmond Bane for the most triples in the conference with 64 (2.7 per game). Owning 180 career 3-pointers, Manek already ranks eighth in OU history for made treys. Throughout his career, Oklahoma is 13-4 when he hit four or more 3-pointers.

The Simple Keys To Success 

The Sooners are 14-1 this season when they have a better field goal percentage than their opponents. Their only loss when owning a better field goal percentage was on the road at No. 1 Baylor.

OU is 15-5 when holding its opponents to under 80 points.

Oklahoma is 10-1 when it out-rebounds its opponent.

Free Points

OU leads the Big 12 in free throw percentage, making 77.2% of its shots from the foul stripe. The Sooners, who shot free throws at a 69.7% rate in 2018-19, rank 16th in the country in 2019-20 (fifth among major-conference teams).

Scouting Report

Kansas is winning games this season by an average score of 74-60. They’re grabbing 38.4 rebounds and recording 14.2 assists per game.

The Jayhawks are led in scoring by guard Devon Dotson’s 17.9 points per game. The sophomore is also averaging 2.2 steals per game. Center Udoka Azubuike is pulling down 9.6 rebounds per game and junior guard Marcus Garrett is dishing out 4.5 assists per contest.
