Oklahoma got off to a great start in the Hillenbrand Invitational on Friday. After downing Bryant 8-3, the Sooners put Northern Iowa away 10-2 in six innings.
Lynnsie Elam, Grace Lyons, and Taylon Snow all homered in first two innings to help the Sooners build a 5-0 lead. After an RBI double from Mackenzie Donihoo scored the sixth run of the day for Oklahoma, Kinzie Hansen helped OU score four runs in the sixth, with a 3-RBI homer to right field, to cap off the first run-rule victory of the season.
Giselle “G” Juarez started her first game of the season and struck out the only two batters she faced. Freshman Macy McAdoo replaced Juarez in with one out remaining in the first and struck out five batters over the next 3.2 innings to improve her season record to 4-0.
Freshman Alanna Thiede and senior Shannon Saile also made appearances in the game. Thiede took to the circle for the first time this season, tossing one inning.
The Sooners will play two again on Saturday. After starting the day with Long Beach (3:00 pm, Central) they will face #4 Arizona and former Oklahoma pitcher Mariah Lopez.
