Oklahoma Football | 2021 Quarterback Target Elevated To 5-Star

There’s a new top quarterback in the class of 2021. Gonzaga Prep (Washington D.C.) senior to be Caleb Williams was boosted to 5-star status in the latest round of rankings by 247Sports. The boost in status elevated him to the #6 overall player in the class and the top signal caller.

According to the recruiting site, Oklahoma’s top 2021 target may not be finished rising in status.

Williams takes over the top spot in our quarterback rankings and will likely push for the No. 1 overall ranking by the end of the year. It’s really tough to find a discernible weakness in his game as he has the complete package of arm talent, athleticism, poise, competitiveness and leadership. He was our Alpha Dog at the Future 50 event in January and was a much better pure thrower than we expected. He draws comparisons to Russell Wilson and that’s pretty accurate because of his thick frame and game breaking ability his arm and legs. LSU and Oklahoma look to be the teams to beat right now with Clemson, Oregon and Penn State still in the mix as well.

Williams currently holds 23 scholarship offers with Oklahoma getting in the mix last June when he made an unofficial campus visit.

As is stands right now, LSU is a slight lean over Oklahoma but it was much heaver before the exodus of offensive coaches last month.

  1. I just can’t take seriously this notion that LSU is stil a favorite over Oklahoma. What QB in their right mind would chose to go okay for Scott Linehan over Lincoln Riley?

    1. I think opportunity plays a big role in this. He’ll have two or maybe three seasons behind Rattler in Norman. Not sure the line is that long in Baton Rouge.
